And today I am going to share the exact 10 daily drills that our champion students follow every single day.

Drill #1 – Finger Warm-Up (1 minute) 🤲
Before touching the abacus, always warm up those tiny fingers! Open-close fists 10 times → make “OK” sign 10 times → touch each finger to thumb 5 times. This makes fingers super-fast and ready to fly on the abacus beads!
Drill #2 – Bead Touching Race (2 minutes) ⏱️
Place the abacus flat. Call out random beads: “Upper 3rd bead left hand”, “Lower 2nd bead right hand”. Child touches as fast as possible. Do 30–40 touches. This builds muscle memory and bead recognition in a fun way!
Drill #3 – Plus 1, Plus 2, Plus 3 Speed Game (2 minutes) ➕
Start with 5 on abacus → keep adding 1 ten times (5→6→7…→15) Then add 2 ten times → then add 3 ten times. Do the same with subtraction (minus 1, minus 2, minus 3). Our UK and Canada students love this drill – it feels like a video game!
Drill #4 – Friends of 10 (1 minute) 💛
Every abacus student must know friends of 10 by heart! 5+5, 6+4, 7+3, 8+2, 9+1 Teacher/parent says one number, child shouts the friend. Do it 20 times fast. This is the secret behind lightning-fast calculations!
Drill #5 – Dictation Blitz (3 minutes) 🎤
Parent says 10 random 2-digit numbers (example: 23, 47, 58, 19…). Child sets them on abacus super-fast without writing anything. Then clear abacus → again 10 new numbers. This is the favourite drill in our Dubai and Australia centres!
Drill #6 – Mental Image Magic (2 minutes) 🧠
Close eyes → imagine abacus in mind → parent says “add 34”, “subtract 18”, “add 56”. Child moves beads only in imagination and says final answer. This is how real abacus champions calculate 5-digit numbers in seconds without touching the tool!
Drill #7 – Flash Anzan (2 minutes) ⚡
Go to our free daily practice website → https://abacuswala.com Choose Level 1 or Level 2 → 50 sums flash on screen for only 0.5 seconds each! Child has to do mental addition/subtraction. Parents in USA and New Zealand tell us their kids beg to do this drill daily because it feels like a superhero game!
Drill #8 – Vedic Maths Speed Tricks (2 minutes) 🪄
Every day learn ONE small Vedic Maths trick. Example:
- Multiply any number by 11 in 2 seconds
- Square numbers ending with 5 instantly
- Subtract from 1000 in a blink We teach all these tricks FREE on our YouTube channels (links below).
Drill #9 – Zig-Zag Addition (1 minute) ↔️
Write any 10 two-digit numbers in zig-zag style and add left-to-right and right-to-left using abacus. This removes fear of big addition problems forever!
Drill #10 – Champion Celebration (1 minute) 🏆
After finishing 9 drills, child stands up, shouts “I am an Abacus Champion!” and does a small victory dance 💃🕺 Parent claps and gives a big hug. This builds unbreakable confidence and makes children fall in love with maths!
